Take The Pledge

We held the 2nd Annual Women That Soar “Steel Magnolia” luncheon on May 28th at the Aldredge House in Dallas, Texas. The event was to announce our 2010 “Brilliantly You” Award honorees. The luncheon was hosted and sponsored by Joshua Frenk and Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk.

Speaker Ronda Rich was back for the second year to grace us with southern stories. She captivated the audience with her wit and charm. She posseses a southern accent so exquisite that it made you wonder if it was for real. If you know Ronda, or ever have the opportunity to meet her, you know she is real and one of the most down to earth women you will ever meet.

It was a beautiful day! The women were in beautiful floral dresses and hats. The guys dressed in cool linen suits. The band played Jazz and those in attendance said the event was fabulous!

As I looked around the room and saw the diverse group of women and men mingling and drinking mint julips along with mimosas, I stopped for a moment to remind myself why we we’re really here.

Yes, its was to announce our honorees and sponsors to the media, their family, friends and colleagues. Its a time were women and men get to dress up, socialize and have their photo in local media publications, but its more than a social event. This event is about

bringing awareness and raising funds for women and young girls who are victims of abuse and violence. Via the Brilliantly You Foundation, this year, I asked the women in attendance to take a pledge to continue to empower and uplift other women; to help them on their journey to Soar and Celebrate The Brilliance Within them!

We had over 100 women to take the pledge. I was truly honored. It is my goal to get 5,000 women to take the pledge and raise 50,000 dollars before our Brilliantly You Awards are held on September 25, 2010.

This is a big task. Yet, it is one I’m willing to take on. I know with the support of a strong community of women, together we can do it!

Each month, I will blog about our progress and ask everyone for their support. We will have a page setup on our site where you can sign up and make a donation of any amount. Believe it or not, abuse among women is rising. It effects women from all walks of life. Its time we become the voice and speak out!
