We had a great discussion on the topic of procrastination a few weeks ago. Now let’s talk about breaking patterns that are negatively affecting our lives. Our thoughts ARE our daily routine/pattern. Throughout our lives we have learned behavior that has become what I call the map of our life day. Some of our daily patterns can be comfortable to ourselves, but surprisingly can be uncomfortable to others around us. This is proof that we can be unaware of certain patterns that may not be beneficial and harmful to others.
Let me give you an example, as a child I was a whiner. I whined about everything. I continued to whine into my late teens. It wasn’t until a friend told me that I whined too much and that it was annoying. Ha! That was a jolt to my thought pattern.
Needless, I was shocked and offended that he would say such a thing. I began to pay more attention to my delivery of conversations and it actually helped me realize that I needed to converse in a more mature manner. I also saw improvement in how people responded to my conversations when I did.
More importantly, I began to research the ‘WHY’ into the whining. I found it, and I changed my pattern of conversation.
Is there a pattern you have that may be affecting you and those around you unknowingly?
Start paying more attention to yourself and the way others respond to you. You might be surprised to find something about thought pattern that might need improvement. Remember, behavior is the end result of thought patterns.
I’m constantly working on me. Yes, and the Bible says we go from strength to strength. In other words, we never stop growing.
Until next time, don’t be afraid to change the patterns necessarily to fulfilling quality of life for you and those around you.
