Life has so much to offer when we simply listen to that still, small voice that whispers to us. Ten years ago, I took a leap of faith and launched my media company, “Women That Soar”. I had no clue or idea what I was doing, but I knew I wanted to produce empowering and inspiring content that would serve to change the lives of women all over the world. From this brain child, I created the “Women That Soar” Awards. It was and still is my goal to honor women of different races, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds from around the world. My hope is to bring them together on one stage, for one night, to celebrate one each other. But In order to do this in the beginning, I had to let go of all my fears and think BIG.
I had to dare myself to soar.
This decade-long journey was not always easy. As a matter of fact, there were times when it was absolutely painful! Honestly, at certain points, I simply wanted to give up. Yet, something inside me wouldn’t release me to walk away. In spite of the doubts, I would pray. It’s wonderful how, no matter how dark things seemed, God always answered my prayers and pulled me through. I’m a firm believer that you must have faith in order to succeed at anything in life. You have to connect with the almighty Creator and allow him to reveal your true purpose in life. More so, we have to be willing to let go of our fears and doubts.
After ten years of walking in my own faith journey, I decided to create a day where women joined together with their friends, women’s group, colleges, family, and neighbors to release their fears and allow their dreams to soar. On May 13, 2017, Women That Soar and American Airlines will join together for the, “Dare2Soar” Day. On that day, women will take two balloons, one to which they tie their fear and release it forever, and the other to which they tie their dream and let it soar to new heights!
This day is all about empowering and inspiring all women to soar and celebrate the brilliance within themselves that they have been afraid to show. It’s that fear that binds everyone to their pasts, keeping them from reaching their destiny that is only one decision away. For far too long, we have obeyed the doubts that have plagued our souls simply because we didn’t know what the future held. Of course, even now, the times ahead are shrouded in mystery. However, it is when we realize that everything we hold dear and familiar to us serves as boundaries clothed in comfort that we emerge into something greater and brighter. Yes, our first steps are scary, but that is only because our goals are taking us to some place new.
Dare2Soar is something that I came up with in order to help other women, but I would be lying to anyone if I neglected to tell them that I had to declare my own Dare2Soar day for myself. I took my two balloons, tied my goals to one and fears to the other. When I released both of them to be carried aloft by the winds of change, there was a refreshing that I had never felt before. I was emboldened to try something new, get out of my routine, and realize a greatness that had been living inside of me ever since I was created. It was then that I knew why I was born. The purpose on my life continuously calls me to help other women realize their potential—a potential I had to, first, see within myself.
It’s that same courage I wish to inspire in other women. Yes, I want every woman to allow their balloons to soar, but it is my greater hope that this day isn’t just a sign of a temporary feeling that will be here one day and gone the next. I want each participant to understand that they have the power and bravery to actually act upon their desires for the newness of life and be daring in accomplishing their goals. After all, neither of us were created to simply pay bills and die. No! Life is so much more; it has to be more. I’ve seen that it is filled with joy, adventure, and a knowledge of who each of us were created to be!
So, on Dare2Soar Day, unite with me and countless women around the globe as symbolically release our two balloons to say a permanent goodbye to our fears and doubts while we embrace the adventure of our unknown, yet bright, future. With everything in me, I know you will see that there is more in store for you than the mundane, customary routine that has held you captive. You will emerge from an old shell of doubt and trepidation to walk in a life of purpose, grace, and destiny!
Trust me. I know. I’m still soaring!
