Why Belly Fat Develops More Readily After 35

Perhaps you’ve heard the saying “middle-age spread”. As you reach middle age and beyond, your body begins to store and burn fat differently. And this all happens out of your control at your body’s cellular level. Your fat cells produce three different ‘chemicals’ which affect your body:

Leptin

Adiponectin

Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase

These signals communicate to your brain whether to halt or to keep eating.

The hormone leptin is important for helping your body maintain its lean composition… The fat cells in your body secrete a hormone called leptin. Leptin works as a chemical signal in your blood telling your brain you have eaten enough.

When things are working optimally, you “hear” that message and you stop eating. Your body naturally seeks to stay within your ideal weight zone.

Not only does leptin help stop your hunger; it also helps you burn more calories. Leptin arouses the breakdown of stored triglycerides from your fat cells.

The second chemical produced and released by your fat cells is adiponectin – a hormone that helps to regulate your body’s normal insulin sensitivity. As the amount of fat tissue increases, the level of adiponectin decreases. Larger fat cells naturally produce less adiponectin. Levels of adiponectin are directly related to the amount of belly fat.

As you lose weight, more adiponectin becomes available.

The 3rd chemical, glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is an enzyme that is needed to convert starch and sugar calories to stored body fat.

So What Can You Do?
There are several things you can do to help promote your cells’ ideal sensitivity to leptin and support the other two important chemicals:

Avoid processed foods

Avoid high fructose corn syrup, sugars, grains, fruit juices, and sweetened drinks and diet drinks

Supplement with high quality omega-3 fatty acids

Artificially sweetened beverages and foods are NOT the answer to losing weight.

Many people drink diet soda and diet foods when they want to shed extra pounds and inches.

They contain synthetic and what I consider to be detrimental ingredients. The latest research clearly demonstrates that artificial sweeteners actually cause weight GAIN rather than weight loss.

Aspartame, also known as Equal™ or NutraSweet™, has been linked to cancer, premature birth, and developmental and cognitive problems in kids. It is presently added to over 6,000 foods and beverages. Please understand, you must read labels carefully to detect its presence.

Your best alternative, in my opinion, is to replace any type of soda with pure filtered water.

What About Moving More?
Of course, no discussion about effective sustained weight loss or promoting your body’s peak ability to respond to leptin’s signals would be complete without commenting on exercise.

If you’re not accustomed to exercising, I advise you to start slowly. Even something as simple as a brisk walk or bike ride around your neighborhood will help you get started.

For effective fat loss you will want to concentrate on metabolism boosting exercise. Find something you like to do – and commit to doing it regularly.

Can’t get motivated? Enroll an accountability partner and help each other be consistent.

If you’re looking for a type of exercise that will give you maximum reward for your time spent, then I believe you should concentrate on the high metabolism boosting exercises taught inside Coach Carla Weight Loss. Total time needed is less than 10 minutes per day, and the time can be broken up into 3 or 4 sessions.

With much love and light,
